3 Card Poker

Poker is fast becoming one of the most popular card games known to man. Just look at a few of the latest TV advertisements to see how big the range of players really is. One of the great and popular variations of poker is 3 card, which is something that offers excitement and plenty of chances to win.

The Rules

A 3 card poker table is usually structured in such a way so that three styles of betting can take place; ante, play and pair plus. To start with, players will put their desired bet on the ante, at which point they can choose to bet on pair plus as well. When all bets are off, the players get 3 cards; hence the name of the game.

Rather than playing against the other players, players will be playing to win against the dealer. Once they get their set of cards, they choose to fold or bet, at a minimum of the original ante.

Dealers have a great chance of winning because their hand is only eligible for play when they have a queen or better. They can choose which of their cards is the best before they play. Of course, the great thing about this is if the dealer does not have a queen or better, it is an automatic win for the players at the table. Look out for the best hands in this order: straight flush, three of a kind, straight, flush, pair and high card.

Technique and probability

3 card poker is certainly not one of the hardest card games to play, mainly due to the fact that players only have three cards. Players should only aim to play when they have a hand that is equal or better than Q, 6, 4 to increase their chances of winning in the long run.
